Student Room Inspiration: Bohemian in the Ghetto

University housing isn't glamorous, and the student budget definitely doesn't help with that. So, how did Charlene, a third year Queen's student living in the ghetto, manage to create the perfect, bohemian-styled room?

Stick to a Theme (& then Add Fairy Lights to it)

Making a conscious effort to stick to certain colours and patterns can really pay off - this can really help to tie your room together especially if you don't have too much furniture. Charlene's room features a clean, white base with green leaf accents. With a fun tapestry, fake plants, and even a matching laptop case, her space gives off a calm and relaxing feel. P.S. Putting up some fairy lights is the cherry on top!

Embrace the Lack of Space

Small student rooms with don't leave much space for your clothes. Instead of shoving your sweaters into your tiny closet, take the opportunity to show off your favourite pieces on a clothing rack. This is an inexpensive trick that helps to show off your own personal style in a fashionable way.

Think Outside of the Box

Don't have the money to splurge on pretty makeup holders? No worries, there are a bunch of cute pencil cups that can do the job just as well. Here, Charlene opted for some metallic, copper toned holders, which go perfectly with the rest of her room. The learning here is that there are always alternatives to a must-have item - just be open to new ideas!

Add Your Personal Touches

At the end of the day, we want our rooms to feel like a safe, familiar place. Especially when you're away from home, incorporating pictures of your friends, family, and loved ones can help you achieve just that. A great way to display pictures is on photo clip string lights - it's quick, easy, and adds a little spark to your room.
