It has been scientifically proven that the earlier you decorate for the Holidays, the happier you will be. As students, this is even more true. While week 11 may have you down, that winter break, filled with cozy evenings, hot chocolate, and friends is the one thing keeping us all going. So bring on a little bit of that Christmas cheer early, by following this 5 tips to get your house spruced up for the holidays. It may take some effort, but we promise the excitement you feel when you walk in your door will be worth it.

1. Pine Wreath

Walking up your front steps and seeing a wreath on your door just screams that winter is here and you can start celebrating. There are so many variations to choose from, from a simple pine wreath to something crazy, with all types of additions. And if you can get a real pine wreath that’s even better – they smell like winter!

2. Christmas Stockings

Putting up stockings for everyone on the house makes it really feel like Santa is on the way. You can get normal ones from the dollar store, or step it up by customizing them with your names. Your house can even do a Secret Santa, and leave each other gifts in your stockings to help you beat the exam funk.

3. Vase of Ornaments

This can also be done with pine cones, but it’s a great way to add a central piece to your kitchen or living room table. It’s also easy to do – pick up some glittery ornaments from the dollar store, and put them in a big vase to showcase your spirit.

4. Bring on the Lights

Christmas lights and fairy lights, indoor and outdoor, there’s no such thing as too many. Having beautiful lights all over your house adds an ambiance that can’t be beat. Plus, with the shorter days, this is a great way to avoid the darkness.

5. Christmas Tree!

Your house isn’t complete until you have a tree up to put the presents under. You can pick one up from your local Value Village, and make a day of putting it up with your housemates. This picture it literally from our house last year, and we kept it up until March. Walking into the house and seeing a tree all lit up will be sure to make you feel better after the exam grind. And they will make your Instagram pics legendary!
