What a Professional Designer Has to Say About Room Design

It's about time that we hear from an expert. Cassandra Reinthaler is a professional designer at California Closets. Hear about what she has to say about decor!

Q: It sounds like your job is quite unique. How did you find yourself in this space?

I started off designing home decor and gifting programs for a large retailer but found myself sitting at a desk all day. My current role is much more dynamic and every day is completely different. It keeps me on my toes!

Q: Where do you find your inspiration when you’re working on a project?

I’m always on the lookout for interesting cabinetry and installations. I have a collection of photos from restaurants, shops etc. that I can draw ideas from. I also follow many inspirational social media accounts which keep me informed of the emerging trends.

Q: As students, we need to make sure our spaces are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Do you have advice for those of us try to make the most out of our rooms?

Invest in a few nice pieces that are multifunctional. For example, a nightstand with drawers or a small storage ottoman. They will move with you through the years because you can always find a place for them.

Q: If you could give one tip to achieve the “perfect” room, what would that be?

Add elements that have sentimental meaning. Whether it’s something from your childhood, a photo of your loved ones, or a souvenir from your favourite trip, it will make the space feel comforting and uniquely yours.
